Do you want to create calendar grids that meet every need calendars for web publishing, portable calendars, printable calendars, etc.? Do you want to create one calendar and save it in a versatility of formats to get many different calendars? If yes, the solution is below.
Calendar Wizard is a calendar making software which has 9 plug-ins for saving calendar grids in various formats. Here is the list of available plug-ins and tips for creating calendar grids with these applications.
Adobe ® Flash SWF file
SWF (Shockwave Flash) is "a partially open file format for multimedia and especially vector graphics developed by FutureWave Software, and now controlled by Adobe. Intended to be small enough for publication on the web, SWF files can contain animations or applets of varying degrees of interactivity and function". (This and further format descriptions are taken from Wikipedia)
It's obvious from the description that SWF file is intended to be published to the web, so the main use of SWF calendar is embedding it into a web page. Nevertheless, SWF calendar can be also viewed in a browser offline or even compiled to an EXE file.
Before building an SWF calendar, Calendar Wizard offers you to choose whether you want to include fonts into SWF or not. What does including fonts mean? While creating SWF calendars, you may need to use some fonts that aren't included with the standard set of your OS. That means you can't be sure whether these fonts will be displayed correctly or not, especially when you use pixel-fonts. The best solution of this problem is to embed the fonts into an SWF file itself.
Adobe ® PDF
PDF (Portable Document Format) is "a file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system. Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout 2-D document that includes the text, fonts, images, and 2-D vector graphics which the documents comprise".
Calendar Wizard generates PDF calendars which are not protected from editing and printing, thus you can change a calendar with any PDF editor . Nevertheless, as well as any other PDF document, you calendar can be protected from editing, printing, selecting and copying text with a password.
Calendar Wizard offers the following options for creating PDF calendars:
- page size matches calendar size - you can create even a nonstandard size PDFs;
- compressed format you can reduce the actual size of PDF calendar. Compressed file will be viewed and opened normally by any PDF reader;
- include fonts according to the PDF specifications, there are only 14 standard fonts that are always available for PDF documents. To ensure that your PDF calendar looks normally even if you use nonstandard fonts, check the include fonts' box to embed all the fonts used for calendar creation into the PDF file.
HTML file
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is "the predominant markup language for web pages. It provides a means to describe the structure of text-based information in a document by denoting certain text as links, headings, paragraphs, lists, and so on and to supplement that text with interactive forms, embedded images, and other objects".
HTML calendars are mostly used to add calendars to webpages .
Calendar Wizard offers versatile options of creating HTML calendars . First of all, you can choose needed file extension htm, html, php, asp, shtml etc. That expands the possibilities of using result HTML calendars very much.
Then, you can set layout forming choose no style sheets, external style sheets or internal style sheets. What is a style sheet ? A style sheet defines styles (i.e. fonts, colors, margins, spacing) for a web browser to use when rendering a webpage. So, Calendar Wizard lets you either use an external style sheet file (.css file) to define the style (layout) of a page; or use internal style sheets (inside the <head> tag directly in an HTML file), or use no style sheets at all (use browser default styles).
Also, you can choose text encoding, font size units (points or pixels), etc. and create links to holidays and special events.
JPEG image
JPEG "in addition to being a compression method, it is often considered to be a file format. JPEG/Exif is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web. These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG".
JPEG calendar, as well as calendars of other image formats, can be modified with any graphic editor, superimposed on another image or picture, used to create printable calendars, etc.
Calendar Wizard lets you adjust image quality, color depth and resolution of result JPEG image. Also, you can use font smoothing (anti-aliasing). Anti-aliasing is a technique which causes the edges of objects to be rendered smooth. Should it be used for every JPEG calendar ? No. It should be used if the font size of your calendar is above 10 points (1389 pixels), smaller text appears messy when it's anti-aliased. The lines of your calendar grid don't need to be anti-aliased because they are exactly vertical and horizontal. Thus, take into account only the text size to use or not to use anti-aliasing.
Metafile Windows
Windows Metafile (WMF, EMF) WMF "is a graphics file format on Microsoft Windows systems, originally designed in the early 1990s. Windows Metafiles are intended to be portable between applications and may contain both vector and bitmap components. In contrast to raster formats such as JPEG and GIF which are used to store bitmap graphics such as photographs, scans and graphics, Windows Metafiles generally are used to store line-art, illustrations and content created in drawing or presentation applications. WMF is a 16-bit format introduced in Windows 3.0 . A newer 32-bit version with additional commands is called Enhanced Metafile ( EMF )".
Although Windows Metafile (WMF) is a native vector format of Microsoft Windows , many non-Windows-based applications also support this format as a method for interchanging data with Windows applications. And, of course, it is specified for use in Microsoft Office applications . Enhanced Metafile (EMF) is similar to WMF , but not so widely-supported.
The only thing you should choose before building metafile is file extension WMF or EMF .
MS Excel
Microsoft Excel (or Microsoft Office Excel) is "a proprietary spreadsheet application written and distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X . It features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables. It is overwhelmingly the dominant spreadsheet application available for these platforms. The new Excel 2007 formats are: XLSX, XLSM, XLSB, XLTM, XLAM".
After exporting you calendar to MS Excel , you can take full advantage of this application and use such options as cell formatting, drawing and pictures, headers and footers, formulas, labels, hyperlinks, VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), printing, preview, page setup, etc.
Before creating calendar in Excel , Calendar Wizard offers you to select the method of adapting calendar colors to the Excel palette. You can use either Microsoft Excel internal methods or palette remapping table. If you have Office 2007, and thus Excel 2007, you'd better use Excel internal methods the new Excel supports the same colors as Calendar Wizard . But if you have Excel 2003, the colors may be changed by Excel because its palette contains less colors than the Calendar Wizard 's one. In this case, you may use palette remapping table to choose the most suitable colors manually.
OLE Automation for CorelDRAW
Calendar Wizard allows you to send commands to build calendar directly in CorelDRAW ® - a vector graphic editor. Send building commands directly to CorelDRAW ® is analogous to running an internal script but is 2-5 times faster. When the calendar is built, you can edit it using all features of CorelDRAW® editor .
Calendar Wizard automatically determines and lists the versions of CorelDRAW ® installed on your computer, you only have to choose the needed one. Then, check/uncheck the following calendar building parameters: split items into layers ; merge all days into one layer; separate layer for gridlines.
Text format TXT file
TXT is a filename extension for files consisting of text usually contain very little formatting (ex: no bolding or italics). The precise definition of the .txt format is not specified, but typically matches the format accepted by the system terminal or simple text editor. Files with the .txt extension can easily be read or opened by any program that reads text and, for that reason, are considered universal (or platform independent).
If you prefer lightweight, portable, software and OS agnostic calendar to fancy and colorful one this plug-in is exactly for you. Select the delimiter you like and create text file or copy text calendar to Windows Clipboard for further pasting.
